  Fishing Reports:

Welcome to the Bass Country Fishing Adventures fishing reports. I hope you enjoy reading these as much as we have making them happen.

  Fishing With Capt Mike Rudder

Fishing Friends,

I really appreciated you fishing with me on Okeechobee over the past several years. The water level in Okeechobee is probably 4 to 6 feet lower than when we last fished there. This is the reason I have moved to Kissimmee Lake located just east of Lake Wales, Florida.

Neva and I have purchased a home at Camp Mack which is located on the river at the north end of Kissimmee Lake. We are located just south of Orlando and Disney World I am fishing Kissimmee Lake, Toho, Walk in Water, and some other smaller lakes in the area.

February, March and April are great months to fish here on Kissimmee !!!!!!!!!! The big ones are looking for a place to spawn and we will know where to find them.

If you are in the Orlando area or just want to come fish, please call me:

Lets go fishing again,

One of many big bass caught on a trip with Bass Country Adventures. The weather has warmed up and the fishing has really picked up during the last two days. Yesterday we had a 6 lb and a
6lb 8oz on spinnerbaits. The best 5 fish, yesterday, would have weighed 18 lbs or better. They did not start biting until the water temp got up to 67 degrees about 2:00 pm. They were in the Hydrilla just off the Kissimmee grass line in North Cove.
The water temp started 59 degrees and got up to 69 degrees at 4:00 pm.
Today we caught 15 good bass on shiners and artificial. Ray Frenette of Lake Wales, FL caught a beautiful 7lb 9oz female on a wild shiner. We caught 8 fish on shiners and 7 on spinnerbaits and one on a Bang O Lure. The water didn’t get as warm today, it only got up to 65 degrees and the bite was slower and not as aggressive as yesterday. The best 5 fish today would have weighed at least 19 lbs.
Mike Boggs fished Philly Point and caught one about 10 lbs on a shiner along with a 5lb 8oz on a spinnerbait.
A 13.8 lb Bass was caught in Kissimmee and weighed in at Camp Mack in a local tournament Sunday.

Capt. Mike Rudder of Bass Country Adventures with a Kissimmee Giant!Fishing has been slow for the last several weeks. We have had unusual cold weather making the water temperature hang in the mid to high 60s. Some fish have been taken on artificial but the better quality fish have been coming on wild shiners. We have had our best success on Crooked Lake but the larger fish have been caught on Kissimmee. We fished Toho Lake last week with the best of the day being about 4 lbs. Today was a much better day. There was a cold front on top of us, and the wind was out of the north blowing at 10 to 15 mph and the air temp only got up to the low 60s. The water temp was only 61 degrees but the fish bit pretty good for about an hour. We caught four bass but one was 9.95 lb. Come on down and lets go fishing.

Mike Rudder fishing Lake Laurel KentuckyWinter fishing in Kentucky can be about like ice fishing but the smallmouth love it. The water temp on Laurel Lake is 47 degrees and the air temp has been hovering around 40 to 45 degrees for the last several days. I have come home for Christmas and looking forward to getting back to Florida the first of January.
The floating fly has been catching lots of smallmouth and some largemouth during the last few weeks here in eastern KY, but today the silver buddy was the bait. This 5 lb+ smallmouth was caught on a gold colored silver buddy in about 18 ft of water on a hump in Laurel Lake.

Capt. Rudder with a decent bass from moonshine bay on Lake OkeechobeeFishing has really been tough on Okeechobee for the last few months. Everyone has been waiting for the water to come up and the fish to return to the grass. We have all figured that it would take the spawn for the fish to return to the shallows from the main lake. I fished Okeechobee Monday and Tuesday and found the fish in one small area in Moonshine Bay. We caught 17 good fish, one about 6lbs, on Monday and 23 on Tuesday. There were two other boats that fished the same area and caught about twenty fish on Tuesday. It is the week of the full moon and the fish are in there ready to spawn. They are full of eggs. We caught all these fish on watermelon/red super flukes fished around patches of grass. There is lots of gator grass growing in Moonshine Bay and the water level is getting lower. The water level was 14.25 when we were fishing and if it get any lower it will be very difficult to get up on plane. We destroyed a prop on Tuesday trying to get out but we did find the fish.

Al Pervisof Senath, MO fishing the Sawgrass Rec AreaFishing has been tough because of the cold fronts and 60 degree water temp here in Florida. We decided to go to the Everglades and try Sawgrass Recreation Area. The water temp was a little warmer, it got up to about 68 degrees by late afternoon.
Bass in Florida are very sluggish if the water temp is below 65 degrees. The fish were very slow in the morning but did pick up after lunch. We had 12 fish at 1:00 pm and a total of 41 bass by 4:30 pm. We caught several fish on watermelon flukes, some on baby brushhogs, but we found that they were hitting best on June bug/red flake 8" worms fished with 1/8 oz sinkers.

Mike Boggs of Corbin, KY with a nice bass from Cyprus LakeThe cold fronts going through the southeast have really effected the fishing in central Florida. The water temp. has been in the lower 60's for the last several days and fish seem to be biting best late in the afternoon. We had a frost on Thanksgiving morning that reminded me of Kentucky. Small baits and a slow presentation has been the rule. I have had my best success on a 5" paddle tail worm in June bug/blue tail with a 1/8th oz sinker. The best fishing has been on Lake Hachineha around the peppergrass and on the edge of the needle reeds.
I have sampled all the lakes in the area during the last several days and it seems that the water temp has slowed the bite in Walk-in-water, Crooked, Kissimmee, Cyprus, and Arbuckle. Some fish are being taken on Toho on rattle traps and live shiners.
